Once upon a dark time…
I’m Deborah, a reader and newbie writer of horror fiction.
I created this publication to have a space for horror writers to meet, network, and talk about horror, as well as to share, learn from each other, support each other, and build a community of horror lovers.
As an expat and world traveler of 15 years (and counting), I also love folklore and dark history, so I’ll share some weird, creepy, and interesting stories from my travels that inspire my writing… and maybe yours, too.
I’ll also share my own writing here as I make the transition from years of nonfiction writing to fiction. I’m just starting out as a horror writer, though, so go easy on me! ;-)

A bit about me
From the time I could read, I was the weird kid who was always hanging out in the dimly-lit back corner of my local library in the horror and occult section. While my friends were reading Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys, and The Baby-sitters Club, I was checking out Time Life’s Mysteries of the Unknown books and reading novels like The Amityville Horror, Stephen King’s It, and Choose Your Own Nightmare… stories by various authors.
Fast forward to adulthood, this intense curiosity for the mysterious, the macabre, and the unknown has only grown.
Expanding beyond just ghosts, curses, and cryptids, I’ve developed a passion and appreciation for cultural beliefs and traditions, history, languages, and the stories of people and places.
For the past 15 years, I’ve been an expat and solo traveler all over the world. Fueled by my curiosity and love of exploration, my desire to travel and learn about the folklore and history of places has only intensified.
If the stories are dark, weird, or creepy, all the better!
And speaking of dark, weird, and creepy, I’m an avid reader and watcher of horror and supernatural suspense, especially anything with folk and gothic elements.
As a nonfiction writer (and former professional nonfiction ghostwriter), I’m also beginning to dip my toe into the fiction writing world with my own horror stories. It’s an exciting, but scary, new adventure for me, but that’s what horror is about anyway, right - facing your fears?

What you’ll find here
This is a work in progress because it’s more of a passion project at the moment, so it may take some time to build to the vision I have. But this is what I want to see here:
First priority:
build a community space where horror authors can meet, network, talk about horror, and share their work, experience, and insights, as well as collaborate, learn from, and support each other
facilitate conversations with authors and readers about books and movies we’ve enjoyed and each other’s opinions and insights
have interviews and discussions with horror authors discussing their stories, what inspires them, industry insights, and tips or advice for other horror authors, as well as new horror writers
interview industry experts like publishers, designers, etc. to get their insights and opinions on the horror industry, market, and trends
hold interviews with experts of the dark, creepy, and macabre like folklorists, historians, and ghost tour guides
share my own travel stories including creepy places I’ve been, interesting folklore I’ve heard about, and weird and macabre history
share my own horror fiction writing and what I’m learning and discovering in the process
Down the road:
horror writing courses, workshops, and coaching
create my own sort of “travel show” or virtual tours of creepy places with interesting folklore and dark history (think something like Rick Steve’s Europe meets Expedition Unknown)
lead group or private tours with folklore/dark history and horror literary themes
host atmospheric horror writing destination retreats
